About me
I work at the intersection of consumer finance and data protection, with more than a decade of policymaking experience in the US federal government. Now, I’m working with regulators and stakeholders internationally to tackle critical questions where money meets technology. I’m also sharing my vision of 21st-century consumer financial markets that foreground consumer control and protection, ensuring prosperity and privacy are allies, not adversaries.
For nearly twelve years, I served in the CFPB’s Office of Markets, leading on market intelligence and policymaking in major consumer financial markets. For most of that time, I guided the CFPB’s landmark policy initiative on open banking, helping scope and craft groundbreaking rules that established the first national framework for consumer financial data rights. I also steered on key policy initiatives in prepaid accounts, remittances, and credit cards.
Now, I run data protection work at Financial Innovation for Impact, an international nonprofit focused on financial regulation innovation. Our driving question: how financial services and data protection regulators can coordinate and collaborate on key intersections: payments, credit, identity, open finance, AI. My team is building the evidence base for integrated oversight, convening regulators and producing research aimed at shaping national, regional, and global standards.
When I’m off the clock, you can find me, my wife, and our twins outside whenever the weather is nice, and playing Azul or Karak whenever it’s not.
I want to talk with regulators and other stakeholders working hard on these issues. I’m also available to speak on panels and webinars, and I’m looking to write for publications forging ahead on finance and technology. Here’s how to connect.
